A place apart
Balnabrechan is an architect-designed Scandinavian log house: warm timber, soft light, and a self-contained Super King suite with its own entrance and two private patios. Not a hotel. Not a busy B&B. A hidden sanctuary created for two.

Own entrance. Super King suite. Breakfast bar with fridge, fresh milk, tea and coffee. Two patios for sunrise coffee and stargazing.

Three minutes from Lunan Bay’s wild golden beach. Four miles from Montrose and Arbroath. One mile from Arbikie Distillery.

Jules hosts as only a local can — with warmth, knowledge, and the kind of care that turns first-time guests into lifelong returners.
The Lodge
Balnabrechan Lodge was designed for the kind of escape that is increasingly rare — complete peace on Scotland’s east coast, without sacrificing comfort. The Super King suite is self-contained, with its own private entrance, so your stay feels entirely yours from the moment you arrive.
“Surrounded by nothing but birdsong, open skies, and the gentle rhythm of nature — complete peace and privacy are not just promised. They are guaranteed.”
Inside, your breakfast bar is stocked with everything you need to begin the day slowly. Outside, two private patios open onto the grounds — morning coffee with the sunrise, evenings under a wide Angus sky. On clear nights, guests have even watched the aurora dance above the trees.

A rare privilege
On clear, dark nights, the aurora borealis has been seen dancing above Balnabrechan’s 21 acres. It’s not promised — nature never is — but when it arrives, there are few better places in Angus to watch it from your own patio.

Local area guide
Use Balnabrechan as a luxurious base — or don’t leave the grounds at all. Both are correct.
Golden sands, dramatic cliffs and the ruins of Red Castle on the beach. Wild, unspoilt, and rarely crowded — a short drive or a longer walk from the lodge.
More than 116 courses within reach, including world-famous Carnoustie Links — host of The Open. Ideal for a pure golf escape with a private base to return to.
Just one mile away — gin, whisky, vodka and aquavit from field to bottle. A perfect afternoon pairing with a quiet evening back at the lodge.
Angus Glens, coastal paths, and the Sustrans cycle network at your door. Free indoor bike storage makes two-wheel exploring easy.
Montrose Basin is a haven for migratory birds — including spectacular pink-footed geese. Seabirds, big skies, and the occasional red squirrel in quieter woods.
Gordon’s Restaurant nearby for a special night out, fresh seafood at the BUT’n’BEN, Arbroath Abbey, and alpaca walking at David’s Hill — five miles away.
