Balnabrechan Lodge was designed for the kind of escape that is increasingly rare — complete peace on Scotland’s east coast, without sacrificing comfort. The Super King suite is self-contained, with its own private entrance, so your stay feels entirely yours from the moment you arrive.

Inside, the breakfast bar is set for your own start: a selection of teas, various coffees including ground for the machine, and fresh milk, not UHT. You bring what you fancy; we provide the space and the proper sundries. Outside, two private patios open onto the grounds. Morning coffee with the sunrise, evenings under a wide Angus sky. On clear nights, guests have watched the aurora above the trees.

Golden sands, dramatic cliffs and the ruins of Red Castle on the beach. Wild, unspoilt, and rarely crowded — a short drive or a longer walk from the lodge.

Glencadam Distillery

Highland single malt in Brechin, a short drive inland. A proper tour if you want one, then back to the lodge for the quiet.

Walks & wheels

Angus Glens, coastal paths, and the Sustrans cycle network at your door. Free indoor bike storage makes two-wheel exploring easy. For something special, Arbroath Cliff Tours runs guided walks, kayaks and sea-cave adventures along the cliffs.

Wildlife

Montrose Basin is a haven for migratory birds — including spectacular pink-footed geese. Seabirds, big skies, and the occasional red squirrel in quieter woods.
